For most of you out there, if you're a loyal follower, you know we went to a Flogging Molly concert back in March. We got to meet the lovely Chuck and Lisa, and their daughter. You see, cab fares in Chicago are outrageous, and I just happened to know they were going, so I called and offered gas money, and they were more than willing to grab us on their way in. (If you ever get to meet these two, you'd love them. They're sweethearts.)
So, we get to the concert and a pretty unknown Indie band, The Drowning Men opened. I actually liked their music. They are from San Diego, and I had the opportunity to meet two when I left during Moneybrother to get a drink and a shirt. They signed the shirt with a smile on their face, and told me how to get an official interview with them when they were done touring at the end of the year.
We won't even talk about the band I left during. To say the least, Boy George would've cried till the eye make-up made him look more like Tammy Faye Baker. They were an Indie group trying to bring back Indie in an 80's bubble gum pop format. I didn't like the style at all.
Then came Flogging Molly. Now, they are catching on in a major way now. I even had to tell Roanen Barron who they are, and he likes them. If you've not listened to them yet, please click here. Lou still blames me for starting the mosh pit. Apparently, my intoxicated bouncing up and down had everyone else start bouncing, and pushing. I don't remember, for reasons already slightly listed. We got out before the crowd got too rambunctious, and went to the right side of the stage. That was the perfect place for me, for we could see the band better and there was room for Lou to dance a jig (as he did).
The great news is that The Drowning Men have now gotten signed. Their first release is below. I'm all about the underground scene, and wanted to spread the love for these two great bands so that more could learn about them, and love them.
A special thanks to Anderson Trucking Services for allowing us to drop our trailer in the Gary yard and to Country Inn & Suites North O'Hare for an awesome stay. We will be returning for Flogging Molly in Chicago next year!
