The text came in from Kim, and it's the text I woke up to.
A cat fell into the salad bar at Lebo junction.
Me, half asleep, was just left staring at a phone, wondering what in the world this could be all about. I thought, "this chick has lost her ever loving mind." So, I texted back:
WTF are you talking about Kim?
Call me.
Normally, I would've dismissed it and went back to sleep, but a cat in the salad bar? Really? I called. I had to. And sure enough, she hadn't lost her mind.
A feral cat had snuck into the building during their remodeling and expansion. It's still unclear as to where or how this little feline got in. What is clear is it wreaked havoc. Kim and Pat had been eating, and went to the game room. Upon their re-entry to the restaurant, they walked into a place where the proverbial hell breaking loose had happened.
With a packed restaurant of hungry truckers, there was a loud noise, and a cat came from the roof panel. It landed on the salad bar's awning, and then showed the wild side of a feral cat, running and jumping. They got the feral cat outside, and replaced everything on the salad bar. Kim's words, "It was funny, disturbing, and gross all at the same time."
I don't like to oversensationalize, so I started looking for answers to why this cat was in the roof and why one of the employees believed there may be a LITTER of kittens up there. I still don't know why the employee told Kim that, but rest assured, no litter of kittens was up there.
I reached out to TA corporate, who, at first was unaware of the situation due to the fact that it is a franchise. They in turn forwarded my contact information to the owner. Meanwhile, I called the restaurant, and spoke to a very rude assistant manager (his lack of people skills has since been dealt with). Finally, the owner can explain the situation. I call.
This conversation started off rather harsh. She believed I would be like so many others and oversensationalize, instead of getting the whole story. This restaurant is so good, several shows have featured them. They don't need overly bad publicity, it does no one any good. Once she calmed down and understood I just wanted the truth, it went smooth; smooth as butter.
Everything stated above is entirely true, and she was the one who let me know about the remodeling, and that no litter resided in the roof. She was at home when the phone call came in. The next morning, the husband was coming up with all kind of cat jokes, with her wanting to probably use the proverbial frying pan on him.
Rest assured, they are taking every measure to make sure this situation never happens again.
And yes, Kim, it is a very funny story. Wish I could've been there to see it. I will eat at Lebo Junction when I go through there for I have full faith in them.
